Ford Pontiac
which is a better first car pontiac or ford?

which would be a better choice for a first car. a 2002 pontiac grand am gt supercharged w/ 135k or a 1997 ford explorer w/ 30k both for around 2500 give or take?
i am a guy i live in connecticut so it does snow but at the same time im not loaded so i dont have alot of cash for gas but i also want 4x4 but i like a decently powerful car

It really depends on your needs.

The supercharger is just one more thing to brake and they are rare and expensive, but 4x4 parts can also be expensive.

Good tires can make up for poor vehicle design, but the size tire that fits it only comes in a "performance" tire. Lots of crap passes for "all season", but good all season tires are going to run about $600 for the set (Eagle F1 All Season.) I work at a tire dealer, and that's what I would sell you. It makes a world of difference. P235/75R15 tires for the explorer are under $400 for a good set.

As for gas mileage, you're only going to get about 25mpg out of the grand am, if you can keep your foot off the pedal. The explorer is going to be more like 18-20mpg depending on engine.

The grand am will waste your friends at stop lights, but the explorer will carry them all.

Myself, I would go for the Ford, but I'm a Ford guy and I've got a motor cycle so I have no use for cars because any time I'm not on the bike I'll want a truck.
